Gerry Kreuder Named 2015 Grand Marshal

Gerry and his wife, Linda came to Albany in 1969 where they raised their three daughters-Karen, Kathy, and Kim. Gerry began his teaching career at Albany Grade School in 1969 teaching Social Studies, PE, and coaching. He then taught 4th and 5th grades for a total of 20 years before going to Fulton High School to serve as Athletic Director for the Riverbend School District. Following that he became a substitute teacher for various other districts before becoming a para educator for the Erie Community Unit School District where he is currently the Erie Middle School Librarian. He also has been employed by an environmental company that collects environmental samples around the Quad Cities Nuclear Plant for 43 years.

Gerry was very active in his 38 years in the Albany community. He served 36 years on the Albany Volunteer Fire Department and 35 years as President of the Firemen's Association. He was also very active in the Miss Flame program and served as MC for around 30 years. He served on the Albany Park Board and was chairman for 29 years. He was a charter member of the Albany Lions Club. He served in many offices as a member of the Albany Sanitary District when It was in existence.

He has received honors as Albany Citizen of the Year, Western Illinois Master Teacher Award, lADA Class A Outstanding Athletic Director of the year for two years, and "Shoot The Bull" for outstanding contribution to athletics in Northwestern Illinois. An award was also established in his name by the Riverbend School District to honor assistant
coaches or middle school coaches for excellence in coaching.

Gerry and his wife Linda of 47 years have lived in Hampton, Illinois for the past 10 years. While living in Albany Linda was also very active in the community. Linda Is retired from the Quad Cities Nuclear Power Station and is presently employed by Mississippi Valley Health. They currently have 8 grandchildren to keep them busy. Karen and family live in Texas, Kathy and family live in Rock Island, and Kim and family live in Milan. Gerry and Linda were members of the Albany Methodist Church and are currently members of the East Moline First Presbyterian Church.
